Coaching Camps Report

Spirit of Shankly has recently held Summer Coaching Camps at Play Football in Crosby. This was a chance for SOS to give back to the community whilst providing football coaching to young children to teach them the skills, rules and morals of the game Shankly would want instilled in the future generation of footballers. Over the 4 separate days during the Summer Holidays around 30 different children aged from 6 to 12 years old took part in the camps. The coaching camps were completely free of charge but allowing parents a chance to donate money to the Rhys Jones Memorial Fund. £45 was collected from this which will be passed on to the charity to help support them in their aim to build a community centre. For the 3 days in August there was also a chance for a child each day who took part to win a £10 Liverpool Voucher.

This is what one of the Parents had to say about the coaching camps:

Just like to say it was a brilliant effort by all involved. Not a lot for the kids to do in the summer and was a great thought by SOS. To be able to do it for free just asking for a donation to Rhys Jones means a job was really well done.

The lads really enjoyed both days and after the first one, couldn't wait till the next one. Sounds daft to us but the coach leaving from outside Anfield was also a nice bonus for them, they even took the time to have a read of the Hillsborough memorial which can only help with their 'education.’

Big success all in all, well done to SOS and in particular Paul who was very helpful with the arrangements.

Spirit of Shankly would like to publically thank all the coaches who volunteered their time and of course to the children who helped make these camps a success.
