Spirit Of Shankly EGM - Saturday 12th September 2009

Spirit Of Shankly, the Liverpool Supporters' Union, would like to invite members to our next General Meeting, to be held on Saturday 12th September, prior to the Burnley home game. Taking place in the Olympia, West Derby Road, and starting at 12pm, the meeting is an opportunity for us to update the membership on the current progress of the union, on issues such as travel, community and membership. Importantly, it is an ideal opportunity for us to re-look at our stance, as a union and membership, on protesting against those destroying our club from within.

The situation over the summer has only exacerbated the problems forced upon the club by Tom Hicks and George Gillett. A summer of re-financing, interest payments and loan servicing payments met by the club, and a lack of transfer funds, comes as no surprise to us fans. Whilst Christian Purslow claims we spent £20 million more than we made on transfers this summer, the numbers simply don't add up. Question marks remain over where money coming into the club is going, with most fearing that Champions League revenue and increased television money, is being siphoned off to pay a debt we want no part of.

Tom Hicks and George Gillett have left many questions unanswered about what is going on behind the scenes at our club. We are faced with continued media speculation, and a summer like the one just gone seems to be inevitable again next year, with re-financing being top of the agenda. We can't afford to sit back and wait and see. We can't afford to concentrate on just supporting the team, not wanting to rock the boat. We can't afford to ignore what is being done to our club. We want our questions answered. The time for action is now! We either put up, or shut up!

Yanks OUT! Now!
