SOS up for European Football Supporters Award

Thursday 3rd December 2009

Spirit of Shankly along with 12 other supporters groups from Belgium, Poland, Germany, Iceland, France, Switzerland, Ukraine and England are in the running for the European Football Supporters Award. Conceived in Brussels in 2005, it is an award set up to reward supporter groups that are helping football regain a certain ethical quality and defend the true values of the sport in and around all European Stadiums. The Union's work in the community has allowed us to be up for this prestigious award. Mutual respect, solidarity and fair play are just some of the criteria that the Union's community activities will be looked at when the jury make their final decision this month.

Previous Winners include the National Association for Disabled Supporters in the UK, Genoa club for children, The Amalgamation of Northern Ireland Supporters Clubs and Peña Multicolor from Spain.

The outcome of the award is expected to be announced on the 12th December with there also being a 6000 Euro prize to further the activities of the winning group.
