Shankly Memorial Glenbuck

Thursday 22nd January 2009

As some people may have been aware the Shankly memorial in Glenbuck was recently damaged by joy-riders crashing a car into the memorial. The damage caused was very severe and the monument was in great danger of being ruined.

Union member Stephen Wright was informed about the incident and contacted authorities in the Glenbuck area, he also informed a Committee member, Ste Monoghan. Ste was then put into contact with Philip Rayson at Scottish Coal, who was told about how close to our hearts this matter was.

The Union and all its members would like to thanks Scottish Coal and in particular Philip Rayson for the speed and efficiency in which they dealt with the matter.

The memorial is now repaired and looking better than ever with a couple of boulders being placed near by to stop such an occurrence happening in future. Please see below for pictures of the damaged monument and the new, repaired memorial.
