A message from Greater Manchester police

Following our recent match at Old Trafford, Spirit Of Shankly have revived a message from Greater Manchester police, which can be read below.

We are pleased to see that the hard work put in by all parties involved has seen a vast improvement in the way fans are treated when they visit Old Trafford.

We hope that this continues in the future and we would welcome other police forces across the country following this example. It is evident that the police and the fans they actually deal with at the match can come together to make the day better for all concerned.

Sent on behalf of the Silver Commander Superintendent Liggett:-

Dear all,

I am writing to pass on my appreciation for your support and cooperation in the planning process for the MUFC v Liverpool fixture that took place on Sunday 14th December 2014. I would also like to place on record how pleased I was with the behaviour of the vast majority of the fans who attended the fixture on the day - the fact that there were only 3 arrests ( one away fan and two home fans) from a sell-out fixture speaks volumes about the way in which the fans conducted themselves on the day. I would like to think that our dialogue in the run up to the match and the communication of key messages to the fans played a part in achieving what I think overall can be classed as a successful event.  I am grateful for the feedback that you have provided and I will ensure that the points raised will be incorporated into the planning process for the fixture next season.

I look forward to working with you again in the future.

Wishing you well for Christmas and the New Year

Yours sincerely

Jim Liggett
