Call to cap Champions League Final tickets

It has happened again. Liverpool, against the odds, have reached another Champions League final. A monumental achievement against Barcelona at Anfield on Tuesday 7 May, securing their ninth final appearance.

The victory was a joint effort from the team on the pitch and the supporters in the stands, the latter’s contribution loudly acknowledged by Klopp and his players.

Now some of those fans face an agonising decision. If they are lucky enough to get a ticket can they afford it?

Spirit of Shankly understand that LFC cannot affect the issues surrounding hotels, airlines and travel agents that are ripping off fans. But the one thing they can do is help hard-pressed supporters with the cost of a ticket.

Tickets vary in price from £60 to £500+. SOS ask the club to ensure no fan pays more than £100.

LFC subsidising the price – particularly for those who qualify through the ballot and will likely have to buy the more expensive tickets – would be a huge gesture. We realise the monetary cost of this to the club, but the galvanising effect and bond it would cement with the fans has a bigger value than any amount of money.

No fan should have to give up a dream of watching their team in a European final due to the cost of a ticket.

Alongside our colleagues at Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust, we ask LFC and Tottenham Hotspur to make sure that doesn’t happen.
