Football Quarter Update
Wednesday 11 April 2012 at 10:15
Since the launch of The Football Quarter prospectus back in December, KEIOC and Spirit of Shankly as All Together Now have been working with relevant organisations to progress the concept. Meetings with Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Vision and Liverpool LEP (Formerly The Mersey Partnership) have been positive and supportive of what The Football Quarter can bring to the North Liverpool area. Some Liverpool City Mayoral of the candidates have mentioned The Football Quarter in their manifestos and it is hoped that with the Mayoral election in May, further benefits including potential allocation of Mayoral Development Zones could enhance the possibility of The Football Quarter becoming a reality.
We also met with the Community Liaison Manager from Liverpool FC to explain all aspects of The Football Quarter and the progress that has been made. Dialogue within this meeting was very positive with LFC providing the following response after the meeting:
"Liverpool FC would like to thank the Spirit of Shankly for its recent update on their Football Quarter initiative. As you know the Club are currently having its own parallel discussions regarding the various options around Anfield and a potential new stadium and therefore we appreciate the Spirit of Shankly sharing their ideas on this topic."
Further regard for The Football Quarter can be seen in its involvement in the forthcoming Stanley Park Festival. As part of the Sea Odyssey event, three giant puppets will visit the park and the two giants of football within the city will be celebrated with a dedicated zone within the Stanley Park Festival named The Football Quarter. The Stanley Park Festival takes place on the 20th-22nd April and is a family event with community coaching provided as part of The Football Quarter. On the 22nd April proposals from The Football Quarter prospectus will be brought to life in a zone containing a big screen to show the Everton v Manchester United match. With Liverpool FC playing the same day against West Bromwich Albion it creates further opportunities for the supporter experience to be improved and provides a great family day out not just for those attending the match at Anfield.
