In Memory of Paul Rice

A special event aimed at increasing the number of blood donors is taking place this Friday, 24th February in memory of Paul Rice, former Chair, Vice Chair and honourary Vice-President of Spirit of Shankly. The National Blood Service will be bringing their promotional vehicles into Williamson Square and encouraging people to register to give blood in memory of Paul.

This is the first of a number of events being held in aid of the charity that Paul set up before he died in recognition of the care he received on wards 7Y and 10Z in the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

SPLOSH, or Staff, Patients and Loved Ones Supporting Haematology is aimed at raising money which will go directly to help staff and patients and families affected by blood cancers.

The Blood Service promotional vehicle will be on site from 10am until 4pm. The names of those who are donating in Paul’s memory will be registered and the Dale Street Donor Centre will schedule separate three hour sessions dedicated to Paul.

There will also be fundraising activity taking place across the City as a special licence has been granted by Liverpool City Council to allow collections to be made for SPLOSH.

Following the announcement from the Club that Paul had posthumously been awarded the Standard Chartered Fan on the Month, Spirit of Shankly hopes that as many members as possible can support this event. Members are invited to share memories over a drink and bite to eat at the Shakespeare pub on Williamson Square. They have kindly laid on a buffet for the guests.
