Friday 29 June 2012 at 08:45
In just two weeks Spirit of Shankly Chairman Fran Stanton and member Kevin Morland will take part in a 250 mile bike ride from Edinburgh to Dublin to raise funds and awareness for the Marie Curie Cancer Care organisation.
This is being done in memory of S.O.S founder and Vice President Paul Rice and Kevin’s mum Julia. Paul Rice lost his battle against Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Leukemia in January 2012 at the Marie Curie hospice, in Woolton, he was vice president of Spirit Of Shankly Liverpool Supporters Union, along with being a member of the LFC Supporters Committee representing supporters in Merseyside. Paul also led the Liverpool Commercial District Partnership since 2006. Paul was a very inspirational man who had a positive influence on so many people’s lives.
The ride begins on Thursday 13th July 2012 with the first days ride from Edinburgh to Troon, then a ferry to Larne in Northern Ireland. The second day of riding consists of a journey between Larne and Newry, followed by a third day of riding from Newry to Dublin.
Over £3000 has already been raised and it would be greatly appreciated if people could donate as much or as little as possible, in order to raise as much money as possible for such a great cause.
